Jimmy Eat World eats Singapore

It was all rock and roll for Jimmy Eat World, when they were in Singapore to perform the Hard Rock Hotel’s Coliseum at Resort World Sentosa. 

Even after seventeen years of studio sessions, recordings and road trips, these guys still manage to rock with fans like there’s no tomorrow.

"We take it out one album at a time, but we do not have plans to slow down" said 35 year-old drummer Zach Lind, when quizzed as to how long Jimmy Eat World would stay on the road.

"Never, say Never" quipped Zach when challenged if the group would mind rocking music out on
a wheelchair.

Where music writing is concerned, Jimmy Eat World gets their greatest inspiration from life itself.

According to lead singer Jim Adkins, "There are no rules. Where things come from … it could be anything. [Writing songs] could be observation-based, experience-based or completely fictional. Even science fiction [writers] put their own perspective in their writing".

Zach chimed in to add, "In a general sense, we try to be inspired by living life, not just by other music but by our experiences."

It's not hard to guess what inspired the song "Coffee and Cigarettes" from their newest album "Invented", and one can only wonder if there could be some in the works from their Singapore escapades.

There was also a 'special plan' to feast on local favourite, Chicken Rice at Maxwell Food Centre. But not before Jimmy Eat World was spotted taking rides at Universal Studios and gadget shopping at Sim Lim Square before their big night at Hard Rock Hotel's Coliseum.

With their 2001 hit "Bleed American", the Arizonian rockers kicked off the night promptly at 8pm, that had the 20-something crowds, screaming and jumping to the beat. 

The decorated concert arena added to the party mood as the jamming raged, leaving everyone sticky and sweaty, although the band wasn't complaining.

"The weather here is a lot different like what we are used to. Arizona is very dry, here it’s very humid. It's been really hot, but it hasn't been too bad", said Zach on how the band was adjusting to the Singapore weather.

The greatest heat during the concert came from the band on stage, and the fans clearly enjoyed rocking out to every one of Jimmy Eat World's famous tunes – screaming and jumping for the entire 90 minutes with a set of 20 songs including hits like "Big Casino", "Always Be", "Pain" and "Coffee and Cigarettes". 

The night ended with an encore of favourites like "Invented", "Middle" and "Sweetness".

The concert will definitely remain for a long time to come in the minds of fans’ and Jimmy Eat World who tweeted with picture of the fans after the show.
