Thousands queue for iPad 2 across Asia

The iPad 2 went on sale in many countries across Asia and beyond on Friday as Apple's updated gadget enters a market that is becoming ever more crowded with tablet computers.

Apple's original iPad defined the tablet computer market and was swiftly followed by offerings from the tech industry's main players, from Samsung and Dell to BlackBerry maker RIM and Toshiba.

A late arrival to the tablet party was Sony, who only this week announced its own tablets a full year after the original iPad went on sale.

Fed chief says jobs, housing holding back US recovery

High unemployment and a sclerotic housing market are holding back the US recovery, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said on Friday.

Lamenting the social costs of high joblessness and a depressed housing market, Bernanke said community groups, local leaders and businesses could all help stop the bleeding.

"Our economy is far from where we would like it to be, and many people and neighbourhoods are in danger of being left behind," he told an audience in Arlington, Virginia.

The largest TV audience for a wedding occurred on July 29, 1981 during the marriage of HRH Prince Charles to Lady Diana Spencer. It was watched by an estimated 750 million people in 74 countries.

The most expensive slice of wedding cake was from a piece of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor's 1937 wedding cake, which sold at Sotheby's, New York on February 27, 1998 for $29,900.
