Blackie Chen puts NT$580 Beef Noodles on wedding menu in memory of late father

Braised Abalone and Peking Duck are staples in Chinese wedding banquets, but Beef Noodles?

Taiwan television host Blackie Chen Jian Zhou revealed Sunday in a micro blog post that his wedding dinner will feature bowls of Beef Noodles because "it is a delicacy that best represents Taiwan".

Chen adds that he liked Beef Noodles so much he eats a bowl every week.

However, Chen's wife-to-be, singer Christine Fan, said on her micro blog that there was a much deeper reason why Chen decided to have Beef Noodles on their banquet menu – to honour the memory of
his late father.

"When he was young, he would often go with his father, a China Airlines aircrew member, to eat Beef Noodles at the staff canteen.

"After his father passed away in an air disaster, he secretly went back to the staff canteen to eat the NT$100 (S$4.20) Beef Noodles because he missed his father."

"He (Chen) said having Beef Noodles on the wedding menu was the only way he could remember his late father and feel like his father is with us at the wedding banquet," wrote Fan in a micro blog post on Tuesday.

Beef Noodles is a common dish in Taiwan, but the Beef Noodles served at Chen’s wedding will be very special.

According to the chef in charge of Chen's wedding dinner, each bowl of Beef Noodles costs a whopping NT$580 (S$25) and contains high quality beef as well as juicy beef tendon specially imported from the US, drenched in a rich stock that takes ten hours to prepare.
