Tripoli compound bombed again as key Libya bases targeted


Rebels, meanwhile, said they were under intense attack by Gaddafi's forces in the city of Misrata near Tripoli today and an AFP reporter saw them beaten back from a frail attempt to retake the eastern key town of Ajdabiya.
Reports emerged today from the capital that Gaddafi's air defences there and key sites across the country were being protected by human shields.
London's Daily Mail is reporting that one of the Libya leader's sons was killed during a suicide air mission over the weekend at a Tripoli army barracks, a claim denied by the ruling powers.
Khamis Gaddafi, 27, who runs the feared Khamis Brigade, is reported to have died on In Cairo, the Arab League today reaffirmed its support for Operation Odyssey Dawn after the previous day saying the air strikes led by the US, France and Britain went beyond the scope of a UN resolution to implement a no-fly zone.
The operation was launched on Saturday to enforce UN Security Council Resolution 1973 aimed at stopping Gaddafi's forces harming civilians as they battle a month-long uprising.
And as divisions over the air strikes emerged in NATO, the US said the ultimate goal of the operation is the departure of Gaddafi.
British Prime Minister David Cameron, however, said there was no legal authority for regime change in Libya.
"It explicitly does not provide the legal authority for action to bring about Gaddafi's removal of power by military means,'' Cameron told the House of Commons ahead of a vote by MPs on the strikes in Libya.
But he said the coalition still wanted to see the end of Gaddafi's iron-fisted 41-year-rule, adding: "Our view is clear - there is no decent future for Libya with Colonel Gaddafi remaining in power.''Saturday night after a Libya pilot deliberately crashed his plane into the army barrracks.
