Christchurch Memorial Service to be held in Westminster Abbey today

In a little under a month Prince William and Kate Middleton will be in Westminster Abbey for their marriage. His father Prince Charles will of course attend also. Today Charles will be in Westminster Abbey for a more sombre occasion.
A memorial service, to remember the New Zealand earthquake on February 11th 2011, is due to get underway at 12 noon today. There will be other dignitaries at the service. There will also be many people who hail from New Zealand in attendance.
The event has been organised by the New Zealand High Commission. The event has been partially organised as a means of thanking the UK for the help New Zealand has received from the country since the earthquake struck.
Entrance is by ticket only. Tickets have been available at the high commission. Due to the high demand the tickets were issued via a ballot. 2,500 tickets have been issued. The service is due to be broadcast into nearby St Margaret’s Church.
The service will remember the victims of the New Zealand earthquake and those victims of the more recent tsunami and earthquake in Japan. It will offer a time for reflection.
All proceeds from the service collection will be donated to the New Zealand Government’s Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.
