Needy seniors, disabled get red packets

Nearly 11,700 needy seniors and the disabled were treated to an early Lunar New Year surprise on Friday.

They are beneficiaries registered with the Community Development Council.

The Singapore Buddhist Lodge Welfare Foundation gave out S$702,710 worth of hong bao (red packets). This is the highest amount since the foundation started distributing red packets in 1949.

On hand to help was
Acting Minister for Social and Family Development Chan Chun Sing.

The foundation also donated S$60,000 to the National Kidney Foundation to help needy patients with transport costs.
