Aww, this gift is so sweet

Singaporeans are proving to be very sweet, when it comes to personalising gifts.

Cake and candy-makers here say they are seeing a growing trend of people asking for personalised goodies.

And for many, cost is not a concern.

One such specialised cake makers -- CAK3 BOX -- said it saw such fancy requests increase five-fold, in
its first two months of operation.

Four months later, co-founders Jennis and Eve said they are producing one cake every two days, on average.

And do they sell like hot cakes!

Explaining the popularity, Eve said: "Firstly it's because of the trend itself. Secondly, when the person receives the cake, there will be a 'wow' effect".

Every element of the cake is crafted by hand so there are no toys or plastic figurines.

Imagination is the only limitation, which is perhaps why more people are sparing no expense when it comes to impressing their loved ones.

Translating their ideas into big mounds of deliciousness does not come cheap, with a price range of S$50 for a teeny teapot design, to S$1,500 for a wedding cake.

Paying for personalisation is also popular in the sweet-making business.

Sweet Enchantment, a rock-candy store, pulled in 30 orders for customised sweets in the first month - mainly through word of mouth and online marketing.

Lolliologist Liang Shi Qi said: "We have customers (who customise gifts for) birthdays, baby showers, weddings, corporate events, and dinner dances.

"We actually had someone who wanted to put in an entire message saying 'Will You Marry Me?' onto a candy".

The store prides itself on using all natural ingredients and injecting Asian flavours such as yuzu, sakura cherry blossom, and lemongrass.

And they sweeten the deal by allowing customers to decide what they want - at a cost of S$480 for a four kilogramme, minimum.
